garden rocks for sale

If you have barking family members and you happen to have a fairly large backyard or garden area, you can do your gardening and bonding time with your dog, or dogs. The pooches can enjoy the running and playing area while you do your gardening. Thus, take time to make sure your yard is dog-friendly and has a few amenities for the dogs to enjoy. You’ll find that you can use certain landscape materials such as sand, mulch, and garden rocks for sale at landscape supplies (like Labrador Landscape) can be safe for canines.

Using landscaping materials

Choose landscape materials that are safe for your pets. Sand is safe for creating pathways or play pits for your dog. However, build a sand litter box and train your dog so it doesn’t just do its toilet-thing wherever sand is.

Cypress mulch and tea tree fine mulch is safe for dogs if you plan to use them in plant beds, potted plants, or to create garden borders. However, please stay away from cocoa mulch as this is toxic to dogs, and they are liable to nibble on them, releasing that toxicity.

If you plan to use garden rocks for pathways or borders, ask your landscape supply store (such as Labrador Landscape) to choose stones and pebbles that are smooth, as sharp-edged stones might hurt your pets.

Install a deck

If you have space, install a raised wooden or cement deck where you and your dog can enjoy the outdoors. Aside from deck chairs and tables, have some chew toys around, so your dog remains occupied while you’re gardening.

Have some shade and shelter

This is essential for both dog and human, especially if the garden is devoid of large trees. Both can suffer from sunburn and heatstroke. If there is a deck, try to have it roofed, or at least have overhead tarps or shade cloths. Dogs can also benefit by having a small house or deck shelter of its own while you’re doing your gardening so it can seek cover when it wants to. Be sure to have plenty of water at hand for the dog, so keep the water bowl filled all the time.

Safe gardening

Keep gardening tools and materials out of reach of your dog when not being used. When using these as well as sharp clippers and spades, always keep an eye on where your dog is. Even when using organic or natural nutrients and fertilizers for your plants (and you should, for your dog’s safety), keep them away from dogs. Research or consult your landscape supply store to make sure that all the plants in your garden are safe for your dog.

If you are planning to have a vegetable garden, as they say, that’s another story, and another article, especially if you have a dog.
