toddler playing in sandpit

If your kids are growing bored of playing in ordinary locations, nothing beats sensory play and the hours kids spend playing in the sand. Kids love to play in sandpits, and if you have enough space anywhere on your property, why not create a dedicated sand play space. Better yet, make it your DIY project this year and surprise your kids. Of course, you need only the best sand for your children, so always buy sands Australia and choose White Straddie Sand which is ideal for sandpits.

Classic square and simple wooden sandpit

The simplest DIY project you can make for your kids (or browse online – sand not included) using treated pine sleepers laid out in a square and stacked on top of each other. Always look for treated wood that is safe for kids, usually with an attractive red-brown colour. Just make sure all nails are driven below the timber.

Embedded wooden sandpit with colour and shape

Embed the wooden sandpit in the ground instead of building it above ground. Better yet, add more fun by painting the wood in bright colours and shape the sandpit into a hexagon, pentagon, or any shape that fancies you and your kids.

Sandpit with benches and cover

Add perfection to any wooden sandpit with adequate seating for the children or even for adults. The two benches on each side of the sandpit can fold down to become lid covers. Unfold the lids, and they become benches. You get to preserve the sandpit during extreme weather, and they even serve as good seating during those times when the pit isn’t being used.

Take it up a level

Is your backyard small or are your kids growing fast? Bring the sandpit up to your kid’s heights with a simple sand table. You can put the sand table aside when they’re done. Start with square timber legs and join them together using wide boards screwed into the top and bottom legs. Attach the sandpit base by turning the table upside down and screwing the board into the ones joining the legs at the top.

Playground with a large pit

All kids love playgrounds. If you have space and land to spare, why not create your own playground? The whole thing can stand on a large sandpit. This will also keep you busy if you want to make the kid’s fort with a ladder and slide, a couple of swings, and a monkey handhold for a complete DIY sandpit project.
