What type of mulch, i.e. cypress mulch, landscapers prefer for garden landscaping use?
Majority of landscapers see mulches as icing on the cake to any landscaping designs. Given that they come in many textures and varieties, the different types also have unique and distinct colours, which can help in beautifying the garden. But mulches do more than just making gardens look pleasing.
Mulches also have other beneficial properties. And they are:
Weed control. Good types of mulches help in preventing germination of weeds to a certain extent.
Adds nutrients. Organic mulches turn into fertilisers as they decompose, adding nutrients to the top layer of the soil.
Erosion control. Mulches protect the soil from compaction due to heavy rains.
Soil insulation. During the summer months, mulches help in protecting the soil and the plants from the harsh heat of the sun. Also, they help in retaining oxygen levels in the soil.
The appropriate way to apply mulches is to initially layer 2 to 3 inches deep of it and must be replaced with a fresh batch yearly. Refrain from putting too much mulch as it can do more harm than good to your plants.

Made up of cypress wood and bark, cypress mulch is obtained from lumber yards from cypress trees. Pinkish at the initial application, the mulch’s colour turns pinkish grey after two years.
Eucalyptus Mulch
Originally made from the eucalyptus trees from Australia, it is coloured light reddish brown at initial application and then turns pinkish grey in 2 years.
Malaleuca Mulch
This can be produced from an Australian tree, which is dark reddish brown in the initial application but becomes pinkish grey in two years.
Pine Straw
One of the desirable mulches being used in landscaping is pine straw that comes from the native pine tree. It settles well, its initial application is reddish brown, and in 2 years, the colour becomes pinkish grey.
Pine Bark
Considered a very good soil conditioner, pine bark comes from the pine tree. It can be used in making potting soil mixes. From reddish/light brown, pine bark becomes dark reddish grey.
